About The Renaissance and Elizabethan Literature
Renaissance means rebirth. It also indicates รข€˜rediscovery of ancient civilization of Greece and Rome'. It refers the consciousness of mind. Freedom of thought was the chief trait of renaissance. The Renaissance came to England in the 16th century and it flourished in the Elizabethan and Jacobean periods. Renaissance's influence is greatly seen in Marlowe's writings especially in Dr. Faustus. Marlowe's tragic heroes are the representatives of the renaissance spirit.
